The evolution of global standards, influenced by constant innovation in the prospects of science and technology, clearly reflects the dynamics of modern-day economics. The elements of trade and service are accorded new values as time progresses in the bustling world of business. Teaching students to envision a cash crop out of problems they observe in their environment elevates their view on how to take advantage in the field of commerce. This requires that they appreciate all forms of business that are ethically profitable today, especially the significance of the media.
Accompanied by Ms. Theodora Cudjoe and other teachers from the Business Department, the students set off to visit Accra in pursuit of exclusive insight into the role of the media and how they function to produce content for listeners and viewers nationwide. Media Generale houses popular broadcasting networks such as TV3 and Onua TV, among other reputable television and radio stations known to every household in the country. Upon arrival, the students were ushered into a showroom designated for school talk shows. Their facilitator briefly introduced himself as the head of the department, then proceeded to talk about the details of his work environment and the role played by all personnel, placing much emphasis on the efforts of crew members who work behind the scenes to ensure the quality of production. He also took the opportunity to address various misunderstandings most people had about the media. The entourage was guided to the sets of two radio stations: Onua FM and 3FM, allowing them to put faces to the familiar voices they recognised on air. Free to scout the premises, the students encountered some famous personalities like Johnny Hughes and Captain Smart, who have made substantial contributions to the vibrancy of the industry. Up next was Tigon Creative Studios.
Most often associated with Lynx Studios, Tigon Creative Studios is renowned for its involvement in the entertainment industry, specifically as the grounds for the production of music videos for many Ghanaian artistes. This state-of-the-art facility provides an ultra-modern setup necessary for the production of quality photos and videos. It was evident that the resources available made it possible for professional photographers and videographers to design any backdrop imaginable, creating hyper-surreal settings to suit client preferences. The students visited the dressing rooms, changing rooms, and the director’s room, among other amazing parts of the studio. Unfortunately, Wondaland was off-limits due to ongoing renovations. Regardless, the experience was one of a kind, and it taught them that the entertainment industry is an investment worth making.
This trip highlighted the importance of the media to our students, teaching them to appreciate its value as a source of information and entertainment in our society. Hopefully, this new variety of career prospects under consideration will open windows of opportunity as the students pursue ambitions beyond the gates of this fine institution.
