Our Lady of Grace SHS Represents Ghana at World Robotics Olympiad 2024 in Turkey

The extensive preparation of the ever-dedicated Robotics Team of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School once again awarded them a chance to represent Ghana at the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) 2024 at the Fuar-İzmir Centre in Izmir, Turkey. Our three teams; Team Nexus, Team Cipher and Team Catalyst showcased outstanding innovation and teamwork in the national qualifiers earning them the esteemed title as our national representatives earlier this year.

The Olympiad assembled contestants worldwide to compete in different categories, including Robosports and Robomission. Our teams participated in these events, exhibiting ingenuity, problem-solving skills and above all, maintaining composure throughout their execution to ensure accuracy and smooth delivery on competition grounds.

Impressively, Team Catalyst placed 13th out of 60 competing teams in the Robosports category. Team Nexus and Team Cipher exhibited their strengths and placed 67th and 84th, respectively, out of 104 competing teams in the Robomission category. This outcome is commendable, given the highly competitive nature of this global event. The teams’ ability to collaborate effectively and strategically in approaching the scrupulous tasks at hand was a testament of their commitment to excellence in robotics.

The journey to the World Robotics Olympiad was arduous. The team dedicated many hours to designing, coding, and testing their robots, simultaneously juggling their social and academic lives. Their success at this international competition fulfills their obligation to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and showcases the potential of young innovators in Ghana.

Participating in the World Robotics Olympiad provided invaluable experiences for the team members. By keenly observing the teams from competing countries, the individuals improved their technical skills and sparked the inception of new ideas and mechanisms to advance the complexity of their inventions. The students also took advantage of the opportunity to connect with peers and professionals from all over the world for joint projects and collective brainstorming.

This achievement raises the profile of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School and underlines Ghana’s growing interest in robotics and technology. Their participation in the World Robotics Olympiad is a vital step towards developing the next generation of engineers and scientists who will advance technology both locally and globally.

Congratulations to Our Lady of Grace Senior High School’s Robotics Team on their outstanding performance at the World Robotics Olympiad!
