With the form of holistic training provided in the community of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School, the limits of excellence have no bounds. Tackling the intricate demands of day-to-day environmental issues persuades the need to prioritize industrialization and technical know-how in the mode of our education. Once again, our dedication to this cause has been proven by securing second place in the Accra Sci-Tech competition, organized by Primetime. This prestigious event occurred from 21st to 24th of November at the Accra National Theatre, a premier venue for showcasing talent and innovation.
Our Lady of Grace SHS presented a team of outstanding candidates, Bruno Odezue of 2 Science 2, Afia Frimpomaa A. Danquah of 2 Science 2, Joseph Afful of 2 Science 3, Mamilan Gaanu of 2 Science 3, Josephine Mensah of 2 Science 1 and Tamara Fuseini of 3 Science 2 from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) club, along with their dedicated coordinator Mr. Thomas Akosah Brempong, all well-versed in their skills and duties, to make a significant impact at this event. Their preparation was nothing short of rigorous, and their commitment was evident in every aspect of their participation.
On arrival, all attention converged to our team, emphasizing the weight of our reputation preceding our presence. The competition involved two key categories: exhibition and challenges, an assessment of their ability to innovate and resolve complex, realistic problems. Exemplifying the forward-thinking approach and technical acumen of our STEM team were two ingenious projects, the Garden-X and a Home Automation Internet of Things (IoT) system.
Garden-X is a groundbreaking initiative that targets the issue of unhealthy seedlings as an enemy to agricultural development. This project employs an array of sensors and systems designed to optimize crop growing conditions, ensuring that farmers can cultivate healthier plants. The impact of such innovation on agricultural practices cannot be overstated; it has the potential to revolutionize our approach to farming.
The Home Automation IoT System represents a significant leap in modern living. It empowers users to control a wide range of household appliances effortlessly, either through a smart switch or via voice commands using the Google Mini Nest. This project addresses the increasing demand for smart home solutions, illustrating the student’s ability to meet contemporary needs with effective technology.
Throughout the competition, our team of students navigated the challenges with ease and precision, demonstrating resilience and determination amidst the intense pressure. The level of critical thinking and profound creativity was exemplary, establishing Our Lady of Grace Senior High School as a frontrunner in promoting intellectual novelty among young minds.
Categorically, the significance of preparation, dedication, and teamwork resonated in the course this competition. Events like the Accra Sci-Tech Competition are vital for empowering young innovators and inspiring them to take on everyday challenges with confidence and ambition for a better tomorrow. Here at OLAGSHS, we have already set the pace in fostering a generation of resourceful, passionate and community-driven young minds in whom we have hope for an exciting future!
