Sporting activities have always stood out as some of the most exhilarating events for the students of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School (OLAG), and this year’s Inter-House Volleyball Competition was no exception. On Thursday, 14th May, the campus was charged with obvious excitement as students eagerly rushed to the sports complex, desperate to secure a prime view of the opening games. Dressed in their vibrant house colors, the student body cheered enthusiastically, waiting for the pioneering matches to begin. The tournament kicked off at a frenetic pace with a dual-court showdown between St. Mary House and St. Joseph House, featuring the boys’ teams on one side and the girls’ teams on the other. Driven by the rhythmic chants of the OLAG morale team, the atmosphere became completely electric. Both matches were heavily contested, but St. Joseph House ultimately showcased superior court dominance, claiming victory on both sides.
Following closely was the highly anticipated match between St. Thomas House and St. Paul House. This encounter proved to be the most intense of the day, characterized by spectacular rallies and superb teamwork. After a grueling, point-for-point battle, St. Paul House emerged victorious in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions. With the opening round concluded, the winning houses were scheduled to face off the following week, while the students returned to their dormitories in high spirits, eagerly discussing the upcoming finals.
The stage was set for the “battle of battles” on Thursday, 21st May. The whistle blew, scores were called out, and an absolute roar of cheers, catcalls, and loud applause echoed across the sports complex as sweat-drenched players fought for every point. The day began with the third-place playoffs between the previous week’s runners-up, St. Thomas and St. Mary houses, both determined to prove their worth. The ball flew relentlessly over the net as players vied to keep it airborne. At the final whistle, a rare split-victory occurred: the St. Mary girls secured the bronze medal for their side, while the St. Thomas boys defeated their opponents to claim third place for theirs.
The atmosphere reached a fever pitch when the finalists, St. Joseph House and St. Paul House, stepped onto the court. With the championship title and ultimate campus bragging rights on the line, even the house parents made it a point to be present, offering unwavering support from the sidelines. Throughout the final matches, the heavy, rhythmic thud of the volleyball echoed across the complex as clenched fists and open palms met the ball with fierce determination. Neither house was willing to back down, making the struggle incredibly tough. However, St. Joseph House rose to the occasion, sweeping the competition to take the crown of victory on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. This spectacular finish sparked massive jubilation, drumming, and applause from the spectators. As the anticipation, anxiety, and struggles of the tournament finally came to a triumphant close, the students returned to their dormitories filled with immense satisfaction, celebrating a memorable week of elite school sportsmanship.
