Staff of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School (OLAG), Mamponteng, marked this year’s International Workers’ Day with a vibrant two-day sports invitational that brought together corporate organisations, sports clubs, and members of the school community in a celebration of wellness, teamwork, and healthy competition.
The event, organised as part of the school’s May Day celebrations, featured a range of sporting disciplines, including football, tennis, table tennis, ludo, and pickleball. Over the course of two days, participants demonstrated remarkable athleticism and sportsmanship, creating an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie that extended well beyond the classroom.
One of the major highlights of the event was the tennis competition, which attracted skilled players from several respected clubs, including Ridge Tennis Club, Techiman Tennis Club, Kumasi Club, and Ashanti Tennis Club. Members of the OLAG staff competed alongside their counterparts from these clubs in a series of highly competitive matches. The contests showcased impressive technical ability, resilience, and passion for the sport, drawing enthusiastic support from spectators who lined the courts throughout the tournament.
Indoor sporting activities also generated considerable excitement. Table tennis enthusiasts were treated to highly competitive encounters that showcased precision, concentration, and exceptional skill. OLAG’s representatives rose to the occasion, producing dominant performances that saw them emerge victorious in both table tennis contests. Participants in ludo and pickleball competitions similarly enjoyed spirited contests that further enhanced the festive atmosphere of the occasion.
Attention later shifted to the football field, where the much-anticipated football competition unfolded in a league format involving invited corporate bodies and participating teams. The matches were fiercely contested, with teams displaying excellent tactical discipline, teamwork, and determination. Throughout the tournament, the OLAG staff football team proved to be a formidable force, delivering a series of outstanding performances against their opponents. Their consistency and fighting spirit ultimately earned them the championship title, emerging as deserving winners of the football competition – the first time in four years.
Beyond the competitive outcomes, the sports invitational served as an important platform for strengthening professional relationships, promoting physical well-being, and fostering collaboration among participants from different institutions and organisations. The event underscored the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with recreation and healthy living.
As the celebrations drew to a close, participants reflected on two memorable days filled with friendship, competition, and community spirit. The success of the event left staff refreshed, energised, and motivated for the remainder of the academic term. It also reinforced Our Lady of Grace Senior High School’s commitment to promoting holistic development and staff welfare through activities that encourage physical fitness, teamwork, and social engagement.
The May Day Sports Invitational stands as yet another testament to OLAG’s belief that excellence extends beyond academic achievement and that opportunities for recreation, wellness, and community building remain essential components of a thriving educational environment.
