Looking back on my journey, I can confidently say that Our Lady of Grace Senior High School played a significant role in shaping the person I am today. Receiving a scholarship to study at the school was a blessing that opened countless opportunities for me, and I remain deeply grateful for the experience.
As a General Science student, I remained inquisitive and dedicated to my studies, always eager to learn new concepts and excel in academics. My hard work paid off when I received the Excellence Award for Best Student in my year group—an achievement that reinforced my belief in the power of determination and academic excellence.
Being part of the second batch of students at Our Lady of Grace means that my year group played a role in shaping the school’s early years. We contributed to building the school’s culture and traditions, whilst our teachers invested their time and effort in training and moulding us into who we are today. The dedication of our teachers, housemistresses, the headmaster, and the entire staff was truly remarkable. They went above and beyond to ensure we received not just an education but also the values and discipline needed for success.
Beyond academics, I actively participated in extracurricular activities that helped shape my leadership and interpersonal skills. I was a member of the school choir, the Writers’ and Debaters’ Society and was president of the Acapella group. I also had the honour of serving as class captain, spearheading my colleagues throughout the entirety of high school which in turn warmed me up for a bigger role as the Library and ICT prefect. These experiences helped me develop confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility- qualities that continue to guide me today.
The school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development prepared me for my future endeavours. I passed my WASSCE with outstanding grades, which enabled me to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ghana. Even at the tetiary level, OLAG supported me with a generous scholarship package. This went a long way in helping me through my studies. Later, I furthered my education with a master’s degree in Population Studies at the Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana. Through hard work and determination, I was honoured as the Overall Best Student – Vice Chancellor’s Award Winner (2024) in my master’s program.
Currently, I serve as a Project Coordinator and Graduate Research Assistant on a climate and health project, a role that gave me the incredible opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom in September 2024 to present research findings on behalf of my research group.
Beyond academics, Our Lady of Grace provided a nurturing, faith-filled environment that strengthened my spiritual growth. The values of discipline among many others instilled in me during my time there have been instrumental in my success.
I attribute much of my achievements to the solid foundation my alma mater provided. The unwavering support of my teachers, the school’s devotion to its students, and the faith-based education I received all played a crucial role in my journey. Our Lady of Grace Senior High School did not just educate me—it transformed me, and for that, I will always be grateful.
To current students, I encourage you to study hard and take full advantage of the opportunities OLAG provides. This school is the best environment for you to thrive, and with commitment, you can achieve great success. Never take it for granted!
