FROM THE HEADMASTER’S DESK

As we come to the close of yet another academic year, it is with immense pride and gratitude that I write this reflection on our journey, to celebrate our achievements, and look forward with purpose.

This year has been nothing short of exceptional for OLAG SHS. We have soared to new heights and etched our name into the annals of excellence.

We began this year with a bold theme—“OLAG, Moulding Purpose-Driven Minds.” This was more than a slogan; it was a call to action. A call to teach and learn with intention, to innovate with impact, and to grow not just in knowledge, but in character. Today, as we reflect on all we have achieved, it is clear that we did not just embrace the theme—we lived it.

One shining outcome of this purpose-driven mindset was our stellar performance in the WASSCE 2024, where our 288 candidates excelled by securing a 100% pass. The available data indicates that 104 of the 288 students from the 2024 class gained admission to study various competitive programmes at the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi alone, with many others securing admission to other equally high-profile universities and colleges across the country and even abroad.

The outstanding performance of our students at the National Robotics Competition organised by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF) and held at the University of Ghana campus is another testament to what it means for OLAG to be a citadel of excellence. Our three teams placed first, second and third ahead of all the other competing schools. Our students did not just build robots; they built solutions. They combined creativity with critical thinking, and in doing so, they brought national recognition to our school. Their victory was not just about winning; it was about leading, pushing boundaries, and proving what is possible when young minds are empowered with purpose.

In the same spirit, our quiz team soared to second place in the highly competitive Regional Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition. This outstanding performance reflects not only academic excellence but also the collaborative spirit and resilience we have nurtured throughout the year. They represented us with pride, intelligence, and integrity.

These achievements are not accidents. They are the result of a shared commitment — by students who give their best, by teachers who give their all, and by parents, guardians and our beloved benefactors in the USA who stand solidly behind our mission.

We are forever indebted to the Rise and Shine Committee and the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina, Minnesota, USA, and all the many individuals and groups across the USA who contribute towards the mission of the school. Special mention this year should be made of the Nina Simone Foundation in California USA that has offered sponsorship for the school’s Music and Cultural Programme, another intervention that is opening doors of greatness to many young ones- students of OLAG and some children and youth in Mamponteng and the surrounding communities who have been offered the opportunity to nurture their musical talents. On the local front, the school is grateful to the Nationwide Technologies Foundation for continuously offering eight students full scholarships to study at the school and for giving sponsorship for the school’s STEM programme. You are a very crucial part of our success story. Mention should also be made of Dr. Agnes Akosua Aidoo, a key founding member of the school, who, over the years, has consistently sponsored two brilliant but needy girls from the Mamponteng Catholic community to study at OLAG SHS. You are leaving an enviable legacy in your own hometown.

To our dedicated staff: thank you for modelling purpose, discipline, and compassion every single day.
To our parents: your partnership continues to be one of our greatest strengths. Special appreciation to the leadership of the PTA that has just handed over for your inspirational leadership. We look forward to better days ahead with the new leadership of the PTA.
And to our students: your passion, perseverance, and progress are what inspire us to keep raising the bar.

As we look ahead, let us not grow complacent. Let this year’s successes fuel even greater ambition. Let us continue building minds that are not just intelligent, but intentional — minds that solve problems, uplift others, and lead with heart.

May we carry this year’s lessons forward with pride and with purpose.

Thank you, and may the road ahead be guided by the same vision that brought us here: one of excellence, integrity, and purpose-driven growth.

Thank you.
